Hi, don't laugh but in Tom's absense I, Dave Watson, have had the pleasure of being in charge of our 2nd XI. So inorder not to be outdone by other teams I am going to attempt some match reports, which unfortunately involves me exposing my typing skills! If you think I'm slow in the field then you should be here to witness the fattest double left handed, no fingered, secretary in the world! Here we go;

A great day for the club- WHAT A RELIEF

After a week without much sleep due to alot of nerves, i can now look forward to a decent nights sleep.

this weeks selection was the hardest ive ever seen, with different views from most of the panel. I have to say it was a brave decision as everyone knew how much this game meant to the whole club.Unfortunity it meant dropping a mate(phil barrow) who ive extremely enjoyed playing cricket with over the last two seasons. It was a phone call that i dreaded making(thanks phil for understanding).

Anyway saturday arrives with bright sunshine(1st time all season) and we travelled to Sanford. Once arriving and having a light warmup it was time for the toss(the one thing we seem to have won all season), As the saying goes tails never fails, the toss was won and we were in the field.

From then on it felt great to be playing 2nd team cricket again.Ben Robins and steve bowling well and energy in the field was great. Two quick wickets in an over from steve soon exposed sanfords weak batting line up.

John nicholls taking over from steves end dryed up the runs and formed a bowling parnership with charles that set us up for an early finish.Charles taking a five wicket bag(well done mate). Sanford only managed a mere 90 all out.

The changing room was full over confidence, unfortunitly our openers had 10minutes to get ready and go out and face 30minutes before tea.

The mood soon changed as wilco and jake were dismissed without scoring and bobby being dropped at first slip early (two down for 1 run).Nicolls looked solid until he tryed cutting a 1st ball from a spinner(bowled through the gate).Harry and Bobby survived through to tea with the score 30-3.

After tea it was plain sailing with a good partnership between Bobby and Harry (both batting extremely well). Once Bobby got out top edging it to mid on Harry took over to see the boys home finishing on 49* not out, a job well done.charles batting for his average 0* not out.

A 6 wicket win putting us in 6th place. A big smile reading the paper and seeing south devon (stacked with there 1st team) beat exeter and claim 20points. Not enough sorry they still get relagated.

I dont believe in playing 1st teamers in the 2nds just to survive, I believe we have a great amount of talent at plymouth and should be looking at a top 4 finish next season.

On a personal note id like to thank all the lads who played 2nds this year, it has been a frustrating season but we fully deserved to stay up. Tom i wish you all the best next season(hopefully some luck goes your way), it was a pleasure playing under your captancy.To the rest of the 2nds lads who played the last two seasons i cant thank you enough, i will take some great memories back home with me.

Cheers lads

"Though shalt not pass" batting from Martin Gill and equally determined batting from Steve Mattock halted what looked like being a huge loss to earn a losing draw.
