The Head Leaseholders to Plymouth Cricket Club’s main ground at Peverell Park have issued the club with an eviction notice. Plymouth Cricket Club believe we have the right to occupy our ground, which we have occupied for the last 80 years, and our Pavilion, which we built and paid for. The club need to raise £20, 000 to defend this right in court in late summer 2008.
A recent report has already identified a shortage of cricket facilities in Plymouth. Plymouth Civil Service's pitch is also under threat. The loss of another ground would severely damage the sport of cricket in Plymouth. The loss of both clubs would leave NO CLUB OFFERING JUNIOR CRICKET within the city of Plymouth
Plymouth Cricket Club offers the opportunity for ANYBODY who wants to play cricket and was the first club in Devon to be awarded ClubMark accreditation from Sport England – designating the club as a safe and child friendly environment.
Over the last three years Plymouth Cricket Club has coached over 3000 Primary School children and hosted numerous coaching programmes for Plymouth City Council. Plymouth Cricket Club runs 12 teams, coveraing all ages and abilities, and is one of only 11 clubs in Devon to offer a dedicated ladies team and coaching. Plymouth Cricket Club is even used for school fixtures due to the lack of alternative facilities.
Plymouth Cricket Club is volunteer run, completely self-sufficient and receives no public funding and over the past 5 years has raised over £5,000 for the Cancer and Leukemia in Children (CLIC) Charity.
