IIIs turn Bradninch match round with 81 run victory

Save to del.icio.us
The IIIs recovered from 39-4 off 26 overs to score a great win which, all being well, could see the team finish 4th (hopefully) with 4 games to go.

An extremely uncomfortable looking initial part of Plymouth's innings saw runs scarce to say the least as Captain Dave, Jon Varcoe, last week's hero Richard Gill and Alex Thomas dismissed for 6, 0, 8, 8 after 24 interminable overs. Bradninch used the pitch conditions very well to give them credit. James Nicholls and Gareth Hart led a spirited recovery as they added 44 before Gareth fell for 21, bowled by Suresh Balan.

Jake Foley scored 40 in 25 balls with 5x4 and a 6 whilst Nics reversed swept himself out despite his protestations (as Boycott would say "..was a silly shot that...")

Richie stopped his tribute to the quacking variety of bird by scoring 9 and Liam was not out on 3 leaving Plymouth 148-7. Bradninch had started to make errors in the field, Niks was dropped and Jake, twice but we had fought back admirably to give ourselves a very decent total to bowl at. A terrific fight back.

So, after plenty of er..."energy food" (a super, smashing, great tea Jo, thank you) Phil Barrow and Rich MacPherson began the demolition of the oppo.

They shared the first four wickets as Bradninch fell to 36-4 after 12 overs. Phil continued to have a day to remember as the Bradninch batsmen helped us out with some strange play - Highest score for them was our old friend "extras" with 23 out of a paltry 67 all out - Phil finished with career best figures of 7-36 and Rich 3-21. Two wins on the trot.

Next week and the week after will see, hpefully. Gilly senior and globe trotting Jordan Hanc.ock grabbing the wickets as yesterday's bowlers are away. Plymouth could definitely finish 5th with a good series of results in our last 4 games (notwithstanding final game Exmouth although they are probably still trying to work out where we play..) and maybe even 4th - Thanks again to the Callicott family for scoring and sorting out the tea, clearing up etc - much appreciated by the team and club.

Good Luck for the next two games boys xxx Szia, as they say in Hungary.
