DEPLETED 2NDS SMASH PAIGNTON

Paignton 154 (T Ward 50, M Griffiths 23, J Wood*censored* 18; D Kurrupa 2-31, R Button 3-17, B Stein 3-36, H Barnes 2-34), Plymouth 156-3 (B Stein 58, R Button 41; A Wakeham 2-58). Plymouth (20pts) bt Paignton (4) by 7 wkts.

A depleted 2nds team with no fewer than 6 players missing earned a deserved 20 points against Paignton on Saturday.

Having won the toss for the first time in a month skipper Rob BUTTON had no hesistation in putting the opposition into bat and his decision paid off.

Opening bowlers Danuka and Harry K bowled extemely well, with Danuka striking early.

Harry K bowled a fine spell of outswing bowling in the heat for little reward with the ever reliable Danuka picking up 2 wickets.

Harry Barnes then came on first change and picked up another 2 quick wickets and on came the spin twins BUTTON and STEIN.

The wicket was perfect for spin bowling with both bowlers taking full advantage of the turning track picking up 3 wickets each leaving Paignton on 154 all out off 30 odd overs.

The fielding again was excellent with players again backing their bowlers with some fine fielding displays.

A deserved mention goes out to Marcus DEANE, Liam EDMUNDS, ABBO, Jake FOLEY and Jon VARCOE who all excelled in the field having come up from the 3rds.

With 155 to get in over 65 overs Plymouth were confident in chasing the runs down - however as in previous games we have been susceptable to losing early wickets however on this occasion this was not the case.

Ben Stein in his usual flamboyant style scored runs easily hitting some superb leg side boundaries (for a change).

Jon Varcoe supported him well scoring 22 after being dubiously given out caught behind off his pad.

Capatin Button came in and crabbed for a few overs supporting Ben before he was caught behind after hitting a well deserved 58.

Once Ben was dismissed BUTTON opened up and scored freely ending up with 41 not out - this result earning us a maximum 20 points.

We remain top of the table and have stretched our lead to 17 points over Exeter. However this is only half time and we still have half a season to maintain this form.

If we keep our high standards up in all departments i am sure we can lift the title this season - but we need to keep improving game by game and not let our standards slip.

A big thankyou to all the players this season who have played 2's cricket it has been a joy to captain lets keep moving forward.

This Saturday we are home to Budleigh who have a much improved side to the one we faced at the start of the season so lets all go out with the right attitude and gain another win.

We have to do faith teas again this week so players please be aware i will text you what to bring - the last one we did worked out great
