Exmouth far far too good for scratch IIIs side

A full strength Exmouth side who will win this league and without doubt be one of the strong sides in the Premier next year made no fuss at all of brushing aside a mixed up IIIs side at Exmouth.

On a fabulously sunny day at one of the great places to play cricket, Plymouth's fears came true in a one sided game.

Captain Dave rightly opted to bowl first when winning the toss - you might as well stay as long as possible when at Exmouth.

Phil Barrow found the margin of error very small as he went for 68 in his 10 overs, 56 of which went in boundaries. Jordan bowled well and accounted for Julian Page when he played on. At 5 an over, JJ had done well and desrvedly picked up a second wicket in his second spell - his first spell of 7 overs, 1 for 27 was excellent.

Martin Gill found no luck whatsoever going his way in his spell of 10 overs, 1 for 60 - dropped catches meaning his figures did him little justice. Gareth Hart took a wicket in his 3 overs for 28 and Richard Gill took a wicket in his 7th over before Exmouth declared, 6 overs early at 253-5.

The openers Page and Stuart Rintoul (who scored 88), on a flat wicket made batting look simple and the rest of the side weren't too bad either.

PCC's batting was simply of the standard not up to this opposition. At 0-2 (Andy Sewell bowled by an inswinging yorker from Matt Tarry and James Rothwell bowled by on ethat cut back in - to no stroke - from Hall, the writing was on the cards and other than partnerships of 37 between Gareth and Rich Gill and 38 between Martin Gill (25) and JJ (caught by the additional 3rd silly mid-off!!!), it was just a question of when. New 'keeper Alex Thomas kept well, and was positive when batting.

Back to reality this week against Tavistock, but the team is struggling - no continuity at all - can we push for 2nd or 3rd in this league? I believe we can, but we all need to be playing well...........and catching.......it's not at the mo'.
