Plymouth 311-9 (N Read 94, B Ferraro 41, B Stein 33; A Longstreet 5-43, J Gray 2-70), Bovey Tracey 141 (S Newton 47no, J Mason 40; D Karuppu 7-26, S Stein 2-42). Plymouth (20pts), Bovey (6) by 170 runs
Plymouth 2nds beat 2nd placed Bovey Tracey, with a 170 run win at Mount Wise this Saturday.
After losing the toss Plymouth were surprisingly put into bat on another hard mount wise wicket.
Harry STEPHENSON and Ben STEIN again scored freely giving the team a great start scoring 25 and 33 respectively. However as last week both openers were dismissed quickly - may be something we can improve on in the future.
In came Nick READ and Rob BUTTON who put on over 90 runs before Rob was caught at mid-off trying to clear the infield.
Nick was in oustanding form hitting quality boundaries with some expansive shots.
Keith was dismissed for a duck and was followed by Nick as he went for a big shot caught on the boundary eventually going for a superb 94.
Harry BARNES was caught behind for another duck but it seemed a dubious decision as the ball did not look like it carried to the keeper.
Ben FERRARO then took control of the innings hitting a brisk 41 with some eye catching shots before getting out again trying to clear the infield.
In came the HUGHES brothers (tom scoring 20 not out) who kept the innings flowing until we reached the mile stone of surpassing 300, for the second week on the trot !!!!!!!!!
We opened the bowling with the forever reliable Sam STEIN and welcomed back the return of the Swing King Danuka.
Big D was an inspiration to swing bowlers country wide as he bowled some incredible in-swinging deliveries which the Bovey Tracey batsmen found unplayable.
Big D ended up with figures of 7 wickets for 26 runs which included 2 hatrick opportunities.
At 48-9 the capt gave the other bowlers a chance to mop up the tail and to gain some match practice. In hind sight this may not have been the best decision made as Bovey Tracey made a 100 run last wicket stand with Sam eventually bowling out the capt who dropped himself down to 11 to try and secure a losing draw.
After all said and done we still won by a huge 170 run margin and the mistakes made during this game will definately be rectified if we find ourselves in a similar predicament.
Next week we travel to HATHERLEIGH who currently remain bottom of the table having lost all 3 games.
However we must enter this match with the same drive and determination that we have shown in the previous games - If we are to win this league every point counts and I am expecting players to show the same passion to win next week !!!!!!!!
P.S A big thanks to Joe and Janet for again providing us with another amazing tea.
