U15's PEVERELL ARE DEVON CHAMPIONS

Save to del.icio.us
Following an excellent season Plymouth Peverell win the Bob Bridges, included is a summary of the season and an account of a thrilling final.

Plymouth Peverell U15's ended their season and their time together with a fitting victory in the Bob Bridges final at Exmouth on Monday 310809.
The team this year which was made up of only twelve players admittedly amongst them were a number of stars secured the West Devon League title and subsequently were crowned Devon champions.
The team which was well led throughout the season by our own HAN*censored* Jordan conducted themselves and played cricket in a way which was a credit to Plymouth cricket club but mostly themselves.
We played very few games with a full side the majority of the time we only fielded ten players but had one fixture against Ivybridge with as few as eight but we still secured a comfortable victory.
The league campaign was made of ten wins and one loss this was away to lewdown when although the team turned up in person they did not in mind. This was probably the only dip in an otherwise credible season where there were many quality individual and team performances.
One of the highlights was beating Tideford Hawks by 172 runs, bowling them out for only three in five overs with Jordan finishing with the figures of 2 - 2 - 0 - 2 and Pavi 3 - 1 - 2 - 4.
Pavi did amazing things with the ball this season taking 28 wickets in only 41.3 overs and on two occasions taking a hat-trick.
our HAN*censored* finished with 19 wickets.
In the batting Harry BARNES stepped up to the plate scoring over 450 runs at an average of over 40, top score of 77 not out and was well supported by Pasi who scored 350 runs at an average of 39.00, top score 64 not out and bowled straighter than probably anyone else in the club.
These were top individual performances but could not have been achieved without the support of all of their team mates and the two team performances which stood out were the magnificent eight against Ivybridge which did not include Pavi and Pasi and the Bob Bridges final.
On both occasions the team fielded like demons supporting their bowlers who gave nothing away.
Now for the final:-
The team who represented Plymouth was:-
Harry BARNES, Will MATTHEWS, Pasi MAWALAGE, Charles ATTIS, Jon VARCOE, Pavi MAWALAGE, Jordan HAN*censored*, Harry PRICE, Dale HALFORD, James THORPE, George SOUTHCOTT, Gus COULDWELL
I was the most nervous person in Exmouth pacing around the boundary like a Dave BURKE, I even developed a throbbing blue vein as Jordan won the toss and decided to bowl. The pitch and outfield looked tremendous and against a talented North Devon side i feared that we would have a large total to chase.
But the boys really came up to the plate putting together a tremendous fielding and bowling performance, battling to stop every run, no one demonstrated their will to win better than Jon VARCOE who was the pick of the Plymouth fielders. Every bowler bowled a great line and length and as a team restricted North Devon to 103 all out in 35 overs.
In response Plymouth started well against a side who tried to intimidate the Plymouth boys and stretch the rules at every opportunity. With only twenty overs gone we were 80 - 2 Pasi having made a stylish 36, suddenly he was caught on the leg side and the team went into panic mode. With four overs remaining we still needed 7 runs to win with only three wickets remaining and Harry PRICE was joined at the wicket by Dale HALFORD.
by now my vein was throbbing and I feared the worst for the boys but i should never have worried Dale and Harry saw off the main bowler before Dale cut a delivery to the boundary for 4 followed by a couple of singles from Harry PRICE. Then in the 34th over Dale clipped one off his hip for the all important win which they thoroughly deserved. My brow finally straightened out before the presentations and photo shoot it was a day I will never forget. We won and just like a repeat of the senior final of the day before HAN*censored* was man of the match.
At this point i would like to thank the parents for supporting their lads thoroughout the season and the squads thirteenth man Jack BARNES who has scored at every match and has given both myself and the players his full support, THANK YOU!
I have managed this groups of boys for the last three seasons during which they have won the league title on two occasions and now the Bob Bridges and numerous boys have represented both West Devon and Devon. They have always played cricket in the right spirit and showed dignity to their opposition whether in victory or defeat. Jordan HAN*censored* has led this team during each season and must take alot of credit for this.
I would like to thank you ALL it has been a pleasure and you have demonstrated to every team that you have played against, the value of playing with dignity as a team and giving everything in trying to achieve your aims.
I wish you all the best of luck in cricket or which ever path you choose to take in life.
REMEMBER IF YOU GIVE YOUR MAXIMUM AT ALL TIMES AND WORK WITH THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU, YOU WILL REALISE ALL OF YOUR DREAMS!
