A fine unbeaten 112 from Mr Screech gave North Devon their first win by 8 wickets
The IIs reached 224 all out off the last ball of the innings following some difficult conditions early on.....
With plenty of cloud cover, the tide out and the ball swinging & seaming, it seemed a good total...
Phil Stephenson was second to go when he followed a boundary by being yorked.
Pete Firth had also followed a preceding boundary with dismissal when he knocked one to cover. Phil's departure meant PCC were 48-2 as Bobby had struck the ball confidently amongst a few extras from the oppo.
Together with Bobby, Quiche put on 81 quick runs until Keith was very unlucky to be bowled while attempting a pull - the ball just didn't bounce!!
230+ was looking on the cards at this stage and with buffalo Andy Ware entering the affray, it wasn't an impossibility. Bobby fell on 65 however and Andy had to temper his game somewhat as we had a bit of a tail: Jack, Sam, Gilly and myself at 8-11.
Victor fell soon after but quickish runs were needed without being daft so it was funny situation. Andy was stumpedn by our future destroyer and PCC finished on 224.......I think the majority of us probably thought that was defendable taking into consideration ND hadn't won a game - it tends to make a difference.
How wrong we were.
With the tide in and the sun wearing it's hat, the ball swung only a little for the bowlers.
Ezra amde the error of dismissing Bob Heaman for 14 (nicely caught at 2nd slip by Andy) as Bob does tend to be a little long-term in his batting intentions. Amos kept out a couple of yorkers early on but Screech made his intentions know straight from the off. i would have fancied our chances had the ball been moving but boundaries were given away regularly to give ND the upper hand throughout.
Ben had a couple of deliveries go through the slips but just isn't having things go his way at present.
Gilly managed to dismiss Amos for 51 but they rollercoasted their way to victory. Jack felt the backlash but you mustn't worry about it for one minute - the pitch was very good for batting and Screech gave chances only when he had passed 100.
Can't see us playing tomorrow against Sidmouth but you never know.
