Response to article from Venu on match last Saturday versus Plymouth Civil Service

Last weekend was a great learning experience for everyone involved including me who had perhaps forgotten the big jump in standard that we all now need to make if we want to compete in this league.
I will be the first to admit that the scoring rate in the first 30 overs was far too slow - believe me I was as frustrated out in the middle as those who were having to watch!! Civil bowled an immaculate line & length on a track without any bounce or pace. What I should have done was to have tried harder to put the bowlers off their line & length - I need to have more confidence in the batsman lower down the order but with Dave Watson having gone early, I was perhaps trying too hard to stay there. The big error that we made was that both myself & Jake got out when we had done all the hard work. If one of us had 'kicked on' then we would have reached a score of 150/160 which would have been a defendable total on that wicket.
Let's keep positive and look forward to this weekend having learnt some hard lessons as I am sure all the teams have after the poor results of the first weekend. Let's have a real go on Saturday and rest assured you will see a more positive Andy!!
