PCS 116/5
civil won the toss put us into bat. With a good batting line up, I was expecting us to score at least 150+.. (115)
tidy bowling line, wicket to wicket and no pace on the ball our top 4 took plenty of over (30) to get up to 40 odd runs.
A good 5th wicket partnership from Andy S and Jake Foley picked up the scoring rate slightly, with rest of the team trying to bash the opposition in the last few overs, wickets started falling at regular intervals and we managed 115.
which was surely 30 odd runs short of a comfortable score on that particular wicket.
young and the old pumped up and a good bowling attacks with lots of options we thought we could give them a stiff competition. ( which we did in the end)
with both our openers bowling very well in tandem with good economy rate ( 15 runs in 6 overs) had to be taken off as the speed factor was making things easy for PCS as nearly all the runs were scored of edges.
Al and Nigel came onto bowl making the batsmen play nearly every ball at least creating lots of chances during that phase of bowling, followed by me managed to create few more chances. Main let down of the day for us was our fielding (with nearly 6 catches dropped few of 4 them sitters, what surprised me was ( was expecting the old fellows( including me) to do the slip up. The best of the fielding was done by Dave Watson ( probably some of you will be laughing by now) but believe me he did stop at least 20 odds runs with his fielding alone ( and his field placement when asked advise by Al was impeccable and still we managed to drops sitters.
Good points:
Good team spirit, everyone of us did fight till the last run was scored.
Bad points:
Catches and catches only.( rest of the ground fielding ( stopping the fours and singles was very good).
Discussion point:
Some of us were upset by slow scoring rate including me.( as it forces me, coming low down to play too many risky shots not only me ( AL, Jake, Reece, and rest of the lower order)
30 Overs, score of 40odd come on guys, However slow the track might be we can do better than that) so few batting plans up the sleeve for next week.
Some of us were upset with bowling plans,
ie: The first bowling change was too quick. I completely agree with it, One of our bowlers boweld 3 overs for 6 runs( 2 wides) sounds fantastic but the point is of the 18 ball he bowled the batsman touched only 3 balls and managed to score 4 runs.
how can we get wickets if they do not bowl at stumps or make the batsman play.
The quicker all the younger bowlers understand this the better and you will progress to the next level quickly. (at 32 nearing 33 and playing for nearly 24 odd years of cricket I figured it out, too late. but still able to pick wickets)
The other question was; So did the bowling change bring us victory we needed, NO but created 6 chances/catches to get them out which we spilled.
