Please either email me your entries, hand them to me at training or give them to Joe C/Jo B on Saturday. 06/04/2012Access to view the pavilion.
We know that you are all getting as excited as we are about the new pavilion and can’t wait for it to be open, however……. Please remember that it is still a building site and access is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN unless accompanied by the foreman and equipped with a hard hat and hi vis jacket. At present, please be content to view from outside the perimeter fencing. The builders have to comply with Heath and Safety rules and so do we!! If H & S inspectors should find that unauthorised members of the public (members of the cricket club classify as unauthorised) have been on site then not only the contractors but WE, PLYMOUTH CRICKET CLUB, WILL BE FINED. And the contractors will pass their fine onto us to pay. Not only would this put the completion of the pavilion in jeopardy but it would mean that we would have a considerable shortfall in finances. Please be patient, we know that we’ve waited a long time for this but the wait will soon be over. ... Read More

14/05/2012Fighting 4s go down to the Ashes
Team News - 4thAt long last it seemed like summer had arrived in Devon as the 4s travelled up to Ashburton in the hope of a better points return than last week. The outfield was very soft, in places it was like running on sand, and a pitch that normally plays very low certainly looked like it would again - and it did! Once again the toss was lost and our hosts were kind enough to let us bat first. Joe C opened with Steve Colmer but only got to 5 when Steve learnt the hard way to not go back. Had he faced a similar length in the Torbridge nets he would have probably been watching the ball fly past his nose - we need to remember when batting on a Saturday. Joe HB joined JC but was unable to build on last weeks effort and he got bowled. Mike Hope was next in and he and JC set about rebuilding and we got to drinks without any further mishaps. It was very difficult to score but 46-2 after 23 gave us a platform to try and accelerate from. Just as Mike's arms started to loosen as he attempted to pick up the run rate, they took a risky single to Ashburton's very own Jonty Rhodes whose direct hit sent Mike back for 13. Jimmy joined JC and started to try and up the rate. These 2 got us to about 80-3 before both got out in the same over. First JC for 51 (his first half century for the club, even though he does have a century to his name!) caught at mid on, then Jimmy went for 9 caught behind. Colin Wood was out LBW for 5 (must have been hitting middle for Coulders to give it!). 130 was still on the cards but the ask was probably too much for the youngsters (and the not so young Matt Allatt) to try and score quickly coming in at a late stage. One important lesson is to realise that you don't need to try and hit the ball to all parts at the end of the innings if it simply won't go there, running quick singles can accumulate very quickly so we need to start looking for the gaps in the field placings. We managed to get to 108-9 off the 46 overs, denying out hosts a bowling point or any extra overs to get our runs in. Ben Singlehurst and Barney Couldwell opened the bowling, and at 17 Ben got the breakthrough when the opener edge to Mike Hope at slip. Ben and Barney both bowled their alloted 6 overs, both conceding about 11 runs in their spell. Joe HB and Rhys Callicott came on but the 2 guys at the crease applied themselves very well and gave very little away, and slowly picked up runs. JC and Joe Bell came on and at last our persistance paid off and Ashburton slipped from about 65-1 to 90-6. Joe Bell getting 3 and JC 2. We did our best to make an experienced panic but they still managed to pick up singles where they could. Jimmy came on and took a late wicket but Ashburton (with some relief) managed to get over the line 7 down with just over 6 overs left. At times our line and length was wayward and we need to work on this - on better batting tracks this will be punished and teams will score quickly against us. 4 points was our return, which still sees us sit rock bottom of the league but we have played 2 very experienced sides who normally fill the top half of the placings. 20 more runs on Saturday and the result could have been very different. Keep working hard guys, our fightback on Saturday showed that winning games is not beyond us in this very tough league. ... Read More
